Social Services

Raising a family can be particularly challenging if you are also having to cope with a low income, difficult home environments, abusive relationships, sudden changes like a loss of a job or bad health.

How we engage with Whānau is the most important aspect of our support, we follow a Whānau Ora approach that is to put Whānau at the centre of all our activities.

It is imperative that when supporting whānau there must be open kōrero that builds trust and creates healthy dialogue that motivates, educates and promotes self-development.

Our friendly social services team provides advocacy for clients at WINZ, support whānau working with Child Youth Family, whanau who are requiring urgent support and are experiencing crisis as well as those seeking information and advice to help with whanau related matters.

The services we provide build on knowledge, leadership and empowerment. They are all linked with our other services and the services in our community. We don’t think we have all the answers and we understand that collaboration is important to provide the best services for whānau.

E Tū Whānau

Te Rūnanga O Whaingaroa is an E Tū Whānau organisation and supports positive change developed by Māori for Māori. E Tū Whānau is about taking responsibility and action in our community and supporting whānau to thrive.

E Tū Whānau nurtures and celebrates:

  • Te Āo Māori taking responsibility and action to create
    positive change
  • Doing things that make whānau strong – te mana kaha o
    te whānau!
  • Tikanga and Māori values – drawing on rich and powerful traditions
  • Kahukura – the people that inspire change in whānau and communities
